| Dragonfly Bamboo® is a complete line of solid bamboo products produced by leading professional craftsmen in Jiangxi, China. The line includes flooring, plywood, wallbase moldings, stairs and stair rails. Our products provide the finest in craftsmanship, innovative engineering and environmental savings. To guarantee the highest quality, Dragonfly® maintains its own bamboo forests. Although there are nearly 1,200 varieties of bamboo, Dragonfly Bamboo® uses only Mao bamboo (phyllostachys pubescens) because its diameter, color, structure, density and strength are the most suitable to flooring and accessories. Dragonfly Bamboo® is treated and dried within 3 days of harvesting to prevent bacterial tainting, and maintain its light color. Using a "continuous trolley" drying room, bamboo strips are dried correctly and in balance. To darken bamboo, Dragonfly puts it through a carbonization process - a heat treatment that caramelizes the sugars in the bamboo, darkening it throughout rather than merely on the surface so that sanding does not affect the color. The carbonization process has the advantage of stabilizing the bamboo fibers. All of our glues and finishes are certified environmentally safe. Finishes, from the Shanghai subsidiary of Treffert GmbH, are advanced oil based polyurethane applied in a six coat process, including UV layer. Dragonfly products are manufactured using German machinery and finishes. Dragonfly Bamboo® meets humidity and construction requirements in North America, Western Europe and Russia. We believe so strongly in the fine quality of each Dragonfly Bamboo product that we cover all our items with a 20-year factory warranty. With its physical characteristics and ability to regenerate rapidly, bamboo is one of the best means to protect endangered hardwoods while providing the properties and attractiveness needed for modern interiors. Although many characteristics of bamboo are shared with those of hardwoods, bamboo is not a wood. It is classified as a grass, and is much denser, and therefore stronger, than hardwoods. It also grows much faster than hardwoods, making it an easily replenishable resource. Mao bamboo can grow up to three feet within the first 24 hours after sprouting in spring. In six months, a bamboo stalk's mature height and diameter are reached. After four years, the bamboo has physical and mechanical properties comparable to high-density timber, and can be harvested. Bamboo also benefits the environment in which it grows - its broad root structure helps to stabilize the soil and prevent erosion. And Dragonfly Bamboo® is made with E1 grade environmental friendly glue, zero formaldehyde glue, which is environmentally friendly, as is our anti-scratch UV coating, produced by TREFFERT in Germany. |
