| What the hell does that mean? As I like to set poems to music, I also like to set poems to art. Often I think of an art work as a visualization of an idea I might For example, what can I say about Dick Cheney? Too much to put into words--I loathe the guy. (For starters, as Bill Maher said, let's stop calling what Cheney does "hunting.") So I sculpted him, forcing myself to look at, contemplate him. I can't stand to look at the guy. My wife said, "Don't put him in the living room." and "Why do you want to sculpt him?" How should I know? I'm just glad he's cracking up, at least in my sculpture. I usually have an idea before I start the artwork, a direct meaning I Little Richard/Pat Boone........ick. Chuck Berry/Beatles.........feh. Howlin' Wolf/Rolling Stones.....eh. This composition illustrates what I feel is a successful artwork. From a distance it's interesting to look at. When you come close you discover an aspect. On reflection there is something meaningful. |
